10Gbps in Air over River Thames

ELVA-1 Presented PPC-10G 10Gbps Radio Link in Live Demo at Central London

London, UK — Aug 04, 2016 — ELVA-1 Company today announced successful live demonstration of PPC-10G ultra-high throughput millimeter wave link for UK and international mobile operators, representatives of ISP and corporate customers and press. This is the first commercially available 10Gpbs wireless link in the world. Aboslutely record in outdoor wireless communications.

During the demo, PPC-10G link provided true 10Gbps wireless channel over River Thames from The Tower Hotel. ELVA-1 personnel run a number of tests to show channel throughput for IP packets of different lengths. Later they answered questions on PPC-10G technical specs and availability for delivery.

PPC-10G is IP radio link, providing up to 10Gbps full-duplex throughput. The link is intended for point-to-point applications such as 4G/LTE/5G Backhaul, Corporate Campus Networks, IPTV, and other Wireless ISP backbones. All ELVA-1 links are designed for interconnection between remote WAN/LAN segments that located on the sites with no fixed line broadband connection. Typically, this is for landscape or industrial barriers or ecology restrictions for ground cable laying like national park, river, lake, airport/railway area, private land, etc.

PPC-10G 10-Gig millimeter wave platform is based on state-of-the-art MMIC chips, which support QAM 256 (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) in digital data radio communications. QAM 256 modulation uses 8 bit per symbol. Based on company long time experience in design of precision low noise mm-wave scientific instruments, ELVA-1 pioneered in implementation of QAM 256 technology for E-band to achieve best spectrum efficiency in the industry. For 70/80 GHz (E-band), QAM 256 currently brings a highest technically achieved spectrum efficiency on the market for 10 Gbps.

With unparalleled capacity in the wireless link market, ELVA-1’s PPC-10G is available in either licensed 40.5-43.5 GHz (Q-band) or lightly licensed 70/80 GHz (E-band) frequency formats. The radio is equipped with a 60 cm antenna by default; however, smaller antenna sizes are also available. The PPC-10G is normally mounted in a rooftop or tower location, and contains slots for SFP/SFP+ modules to connect to a LAN/WAN network.

The ELVA-1 PPC-10G is a fully-outdoor radio link, designed for temperature variations between -50°C(-50F) and +65°C(150F), and humidity up to 100%. The expected maximum operating distance is up to 20 km (12 mi) for links equipped with 60 cm antennas. This distance is valid for weather conditions of clear sky. The roadmap of PPC-10G development includes next generation links equipped with high-grade, high-performance Ethernet level 2 switch with advanced configuration options. For mobile network backbones, PPC-10G will support SyncE and IEEE1588v2 (TC, BC) as well as CPRI (Common Public Radio Interface for up 9,8Gpbs connectivity).

About ELVA-1

Founded in 1993, ELVA-1 is well known player at industrial and scientific instrumentation markets as supplier of components and systems for frequencies from 30 GHz to 1THz. Since 2000, ELVA-1 designs and manufactures ultra high speed radio links according to ECC and FCC requirements. The link operating frequencies include 40.5-43.5GHz, 71-76 & 81-86 GHz, and 92-95 GHz with emphasis on 71-76 & 81-86 GHz as FCC streamlined licensing rules for E-band. Similar, European regulations CEPT channel plan (ECC Recommendation(05)07) for 71-76GHz and 81-86GHz frequency bands radios opens EU wireless fronthaul, backhaul and network extension markets for point-to-point fixed wireless systems (FWS)
