ELVA-1 reports on a successful project at a railroad station to monitor incoming high-speed trains and shunting locomotive operations.
Since Q1 2015, all-weather SDM-76 radars have been installed on dead-end tracks. The project aims to improve railroad safety by using radar sensors instead of the previously used laser sensors. The locomotive safety equipment, using both local speedometer data and data from the system (from the radar), informs the driver of the need to reduce speed when approaching a dead-end track and over, and automatically performs an emergency stop if necessary.
